Glutathione - More than Just a ‘Buzzword’

One of the most valuable weapons in our arsenal, as health and fitness enthusiasts, is knowledge. Having an appropriate understanding of what it takes to maintain a healthy lifestyle is imperative, especially with so many supplements and whey protein products on the market. In any industry, with growing popularity and public interest, there will always be jargon and nonsense to break through in order to keep yourself from being fooled into buying a glorified milkshake.

Here at PROMiXX HQ, we have got your back. One of the latest words being thrown around when it comes to special ingredients in whey protein is ‘Glutathione’, but we are here to tell you that this is no buzzword, it might just be one of the most important facilitators of human survival. Just as important as food, oxygen and water.

Glutathione is a tripeptide protein molecule made up of glutamic acid, glycine and cysteine.

Known in the health, medical, beauty and fitness worlds as ‘The Master Antioxidant’, glutathione is present in almost every single cell in the human body, and it is the cornerstone to many aspects of health and immune functioning.

A little known word and yet, arguably the most important antioxidant we produce and the only antioxidant we produce at an intracellular level. Glutathione has been extensively documented and is currently at the forefront of medical studies.

What can Glutathione do for you?

So what makes Glutathione so special?Levels of intracellular glutathione production is a quick and accurate indicator of cellular health, and of the cell’s ability to detoxify and fight off free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that roam freely within our bodies, in search of another electron, killing healthy cells. Glutathione provides the free radical with the electron it’s looking for, to defend against cell damage.

When everyday stressors, such as strenuous exercise, pollutants, smoking, alcohol and stress compromise our glutathione levels, health will be significantly affected. One of the main contributors is age. The ageing process slows down the production of glutathione within the cells resulting in physical degradation.

Enhancing the production of glutathione has many benefits:

  • Improved Cellular Health
  • Boosted and Regulated Immune System
  • Anti-Ageing Properties
  • Increased Energy Levels

Don’t Be Fooled

Some brands and supposed health products will falsely claim that you can take glutathione as a supplement but, that isn’t true. Dietary glutathione will do little to nothing to support your overall health because taking it orally doesn’t get it to the cells. The trick is to find a product with glutathione precursors, this provides your cells with the building blocks it needs to boost glutathione status at a cellular level.
